Synopsis :
When their mother dies, Michel and Sylvie, a brother and sister who are intellectually handicapped, run away from Val d'Or in Northern Quebec in the middle of winter. They try to reach Matchi Manitou, the Hunting and Fishing Paradise where Sylvie is convinced her mother has gone. As they walk deeper in the boreal forest and almost freeze to death, their fraternal relationship is put to the test. Michel refuses to acknowledge his sister's beliefs in an afterlife and goes from denial to anger to deep sadness before risking his life by refusing to take the medication he needs. With the help of Indian trappers, then of a solitary man who rescues wild animals, they do reach their quest - a place which turns out to be a simple hunting and fishing camp. There, an old woman tends to Michel with medicinal herbs that gives him a vision. He sees his mother and understands she is now everywhere, in his memories as well as in his dreams.
